Help Center › Connect NFC Card to Profile

Overview

Before an NFC card works, it must be linked to a profile. When someone taps the card, their phone opens that profile. This guide explains how to connect a new NFC digital business card to an existing profile.

Two Ways to Connect

1. From the Profile Settings Tab

Use this when you know which profile the card should open.

  • Go to Profiles and select the profile.
  • Open the Edit page and go to the Settings tab.
  • Scroll to the NFC Card section.
  • Under Connect a Card (or Add Another Card if you already have cards), choose how to add the card:
    • Tap NFC Card — On supported devices (e.g. native app), tap the card to read its ID.
    • Scan QR Code — If your card has a QR code, use the scanner to capture the card ID from the URL.
    • Enter URL manually — Click "enter URL manually" and paste the full URL (e.g. https://yourdomain.com/?id=XXXXX) or the card ID. You can also use a handheld scanner.
  • Click Link. The card is connected to this profile.
  • 2. From the NFC Link Page (Tap or Link Flow)

Use this when you tap an unlinked card or open a link with the card ID.

  • Tap the card with your phone (NFC enabled) — or open a URL like https://yourdomain.com/?id=XXXXX in a browser.
  • If you're not signed in, sign in first.
  • You’ll see the Link NFC Card page with your profiles.
  • Select the profile you want the card to open.
  • Confirm. The card is linked to that profile.
  • If you have only one profile, the card may be linked automatically.

    Getting the Card ID

The card ID is a short alphanumeric string (about 10–50 characters). You can get it:

    • From the QR code — Scan the QR on the card. The URL contains ?id=XXXXX — the part after id= is the card ID.
    • From the packaging — Some cards have the ID printed on the card or packaging.
    • From handheld scanner — If you use a barcode/QR scanner, it can capture the full URL or ID; paste it into the manual input field.

    Manual Entry

If you can’t scan or tap:

  • Go to the profile’s Settings tab.
  • Click Connect a Card.
  • Click enter URL manually.
  • Paste the full URL (e.g. https://id.nfctagify.com/?id=ABC123xyz) or just the card ID.
  • Click Link.
  • Card Already Linked to Another Profile

If the card is linked to a different profile (e.g. another team member), you’ll see a message: Card Already Linked.

You can choose Unlink & Connect Here to move the card to the current profile. The card will no longer open the previous profile.

Card Already Registered to Another Account

If the card belongs to another user’s account, you cannot link it. The system will show that the card is already registered. You need a different card.

    After Connecting

    • The card appears in Connected cards on the Settings tab.
    • Tapping the card opens this profile.
    • You can connect multiple cards to the same profile (e.g. for backups or different events).

    Disconnecting a Card

To unlink a card from a profile:

  • Go to the profile’s Settings tab.
  • Find the card in Connected cards.
  • Click Disconnect (trash icon).
  • Confirm.
  • The card will no longer open this profile. You can link it to a different profile later.

    Troubleshooting

Card won’t link — Check that the card ID is correct. It’s usually 10–50 characters, alphanumeric. If you scanned, ensure the full ID was captured.

"Card already registered" — The card is linked to another account. You need a different card.

Tap does nothing — Ensure the phone has NFC enabled and is unlocked. Some phones need the screen on.

Can’t find the Settings tab — Go to Profiles → select a profile → click Edit. The Settings tab is at the top.
